Following is a review of resources that I found useful during my fight with cancer.

How to Prevent and Treat Cancer with Natural Medicine, by Dr. Michael Murray

This excellent book, endorsed by the Cancer Treatment Centers of America, was an enormous help to me.  The book has 3 parts, Preventing Cancer with Natural Medicine, Treating Cancer with Natural Medicine, and Using Natural Medicine to Cope with the Side Effects of Chemotherapy, Radiation, and Surgery.  The second 2 parts are outstanding reading for someone who already has cancer.

When I was going through chemotherapy, this book helped me by giving me very practical dietary and natural supplement suggestions to help me get through chemotherapy.  I used the advice to help me create my own plan, which included juicing a variety of fruits and vegetables, taking a number of supplements, taking walks regularly, and dramatically reducing my sugar intake.  Practical issues, such as the effect of antioxidants on chemotherapy, are also discussed.

Unfortunately, most doctors administering chemotherapy don't really think about the role of supplements, diet, and exercise in fighting cancer.  Obviously, we want to give ourselves the best chance possible to win our fight, but another goal if we decide to go with traditional treatments, is to increase the quality of our lives while going through chemo or radiation.  Highly recommended.

Nothing to Fear, by Larry Burkett

This book was written by a prominent Christian Financial Counselor and Author, Larry Burkett.  This is a short and easy read and also highly recommended.  Larry shares his experience in fighting kidney cancer and tackles such topics as the pitfalls of traditional treatments and how to find the right treatment for you, the role of our mental attitude and faith in the cancer fight, alternative treatments, and one that was particularly helpful for me, choosing faith instead of fear.

Alternative Treatments to Consider:

The following alternative treatments are ones that I considered along the way.  This should not be considered an endorsement of any treatment by me.  Please look into alternative treatments for yourself and make the best decision for you.

Artemisinin

Following is a link to an excellent article by Christina L White discussing the potential benefits of artemisinin in the fight against cancer.  This is one I looked at very carefully.  I actually took artemisinin for the first 2 years following my treatments when I was already in remission.  Obviously, I can't say whether or not it helped keep me in remission, but it is certainly at the top of my list if I ever have a recurrence.  It is also very inexpensive.

Cancer Smart Bomb, Part I: An Idea from Ancient Chinese Medicine

Alternative Treatment overseen by Dr. Nicholas J. Gonzalez, New York, NY This is another one that is at the top of my list to consider in the event of a relapse.  This is a treatment based on very specific and individualized diet and supplement regimens.  One of the main features of the program is the use of Pancreatic Enzymes.  When I called their office, I asked about their success rate, and they indicate that the treatment can be very effective if followed precisely.  It costs around $6,000 a year, including supplements and Dr. visits the last time I checked.  Here is a link to Dr. Gonzalez' website, which describes the treatment and results in significant detail:
